Idea : Hackathon for the fediverse the 7-8 Febuary.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackathon
And i repost the same post so lemmy user can see us. Sorry for the duplicate. š
Hi everybody,
I hope you are well. Iām quite busy with my course, so iām not there a lot. Sorry and thank you for animating this community and being kind. You are awesome. :)
During this week-end, i planned to advance french translation and the Piefed wiki. We decided a meeting with french translators so we can share our ideas and decide together about the most accurate translation.
And i thought why not inviting you. Yes, you āŗļø
I purpose you a hackathon this week-end. Yeah, this idea just popped up in my mind. š
There is plenty things to do : documentation, translationā¦and not only PieFed (lemmy, mbin, nodeBB, loops, iceshrimpā¦)
We can coordinate our effort to make the fediverse a quite good place. If you want to do a hackathon for another software, i suggest to create a separate post and share its link in comment (we also need a way to centralize this event for better coordination). āŗļø
Here is a draft of this idea. Nothing new but i want to setup a set of rules so we donāt waste our energy and time. :)
- hackathon start the week-end, at the beggining of each month (depend of your need)
- before the hackathon, we create a to-do list : documentation, code development, mobile app, translation, ads, UI, updating wiki, squashing small bugā¦everything missing.
- in comment section, we create small team (code, wiki, communicationā¦) and tell users : when ? How many people ? Topics ? And then, you self-organize together.
What do you think ? Would you be interested by those workshops ? Maybe you need more time and already have plan for this week ? We can repport it to March. Got another idea ? :3

Good idea for the matrix instance altough i prefer zulip for its channel management. Can you manage that ? :)
Anyway, we need a tool for teambuilding, a very simple one where we can share our need and ask for help without overhelming devs space.
The main idea of this project is too invite news users to give some time and contribute on few tasks. :)

If you need help, you can ask here or ask a matrix room to team for this projet. :)

Ah, thank for the notice. Maybe i havenāt updated my matrix accountā¦tedomum migrated their serveur to a new one and changed their tld
Nice idea. I can help with spanish translation!
!esp@piefed.zip if you didnāt know about it
For the spanish translation :)
In you are interested in translating Piefed, you help there. :)
And we also have a dedicated channel for translators on https://chat.piefed.social.
Fell free to create a small team for this session and its todo list. And follow what you want to do. :)
Hi, i hope you are well :)
For spanish translation, do you know some people that can join you ? And when are you free ?
What do you want to do ? :)
Hi! I donāt know other spanish speaking users but I could post on some of the related comms to see if someone wants to join. Iāll be free tomorrow I think most of the day, and sunday afternoon.
Iām kinda lost on where to start tho, Iām gonna take a better look a the page to see whatās needed. :)
Come to think of it, first I need to figure out in what kind of spanish the current translation is being made. D:
You meant the current translation is a mix of spanish variant ? :)
No, it seems to be latam spanish but I want to make sure it is before starting to do anything.
I think we can create variant on weblate. We should try to reach the spanish translator :)
Alright Iāll look into it, and see if there are any spaniards interested in contributing.
Good idea. I can help with German translations, some CSS and I have a joinfediverse.wiki account as well. I donāt think PieFed is relevant enough for Wikipedia or is it?
Lemmy has a wikipedia pageā¦
We can create one :)
Iām back ! :)
So do you have a schedule for german translation and joinfediverse wiki ? What can we improve ? Maybe we can try wikipedia ?
No real schedule. The translation is almost at 100% anyway, but I keep finding strings that were translated automatically which arenāt very good. So itās just random checking of strings.
Will have a look at joinfediverse.wiki later. But I canāt commit to a fixed schedule. If I see something that needs improvement, Iāll try to improve it or gather feedback here or in Zulip chat.
Same for the french translation but we want to improve its quality and agree on strings we didnāt validate because we need a third party to check it up :)
For joinfediverse.wiki, i think i have an account there. You can reach me if you need some help. :)
Thank :)
For german translation there is : https://translate.piefed.social/projects/piefed/main-web-app/de/ and maybe a wiki or guide :)
We could try adding the threadiverse there (mbin, nodebb, piefedā¦) : https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fediverse
And also we can update https://joinfediverse.wiki
Fell free to create a small team for this session and a todo list. :)
Iāve never been a fan of hackathons or sprints.
Slow and steady wins the race.
Nit really. We talked several time about inclusive language in french without reaching a conclusion since several montha
The main goal is to invite news users to contribute together and form some team and works together. To create some teamwork, collective.
It is not intended to remplace itās current development but help us to advance on several topic as translation, communication, small bug.
I saw a hackathon for yeswiki and it worked quite great. Devs who usually worked far aways in various countries meet each other IRL, talked about their daily life, then discussed about their project, technological choice then coded during the whole week-end.
Honnestly, i think it is great way to know each other, have fun. As long you donāt put an absurd deadline.
While I canāt offer my time, I like the idea. A community get-together for improving community stuff š
Cool, thank you so much. Maybe later you can join us or just sending good vibe is good. āŗļø
